The body starts weakening and losing its vigor as people reach their “middle ages.” It takes more effort to do regular activities, an element of procrastination creeps in, body pains set in, and tiredness sets in earlier, when you reach your middle age. That’s natural – it’s a part of aging. However, all middle-aged folks can tone up their body and keep it in good shape to minimize the effects of aging. This is where cardio exercises can help.
According to the British Journal of Sports Medicine, cardio workouts can help set aging back by a whole 12 years! What does this mean? This means that if you are 45, your body can feel like it did when you were 33. The Journal says that any age is good to start – it doesn’t matter how old you are. You’ll start reaping the benefits of cardio exercises as soon as. However, for the body to feel 12 years younger, a middle-aged person must keep doing his cardio exercises for a long period of time. This is good enough reason for all middle-aged people to hit the aerobics floor with all they’ve got.
Cardio exercises help strengthen the heart. They also challenge the lungs. The idea is to work out until your heart achieves its peak rate (typically 100 + your age), and then relax for some time before starting again. Middle-aged folks must perform high-intensity cardio workouts for at least 4 times in a week, and here is some useful information:
1. Take up a sport if you’d like that – it’s fun to play a game because all games are competitive. Plus, there’s a lot of running around in games like tennis, football, and basketball. You can really get some serious cardio exercising benefits and have a lot of fun while playing a sport.
2. According to researchers, anaerobic exercises, which quickly get you out of breath, help you increase your HGH production (Human Growth Hormone). HGH is a hormone that is made by the pituitary gland in the brain. It helps in the body’s growth and its production declines as we age. These researchers also say that anaerobic exercises are the most powerful anti-aging exercises. You can try out an anaerobic exercise right on your treadmill – do this: jog at 6 kilometers per hour for 5 minutes and then increase the speed to 10 kilometers per hour for one minute before reducing it back to its original speed. Repeat 4-5 times. This regular “1-minute intense sprinting” on the treadmill will get you your anaerobic. However, you must consult your doctor before following any online advice.
3. An age-old research study published in the magazine, Circulation, in 2001 concludes that middle-aged people can reverse aging with cardio exercises. It states that 20 days of complete inactivity impacts the heart in the same way as 30 years of aging does. It also states that 6 months of moderate cardio workouts can easily reverse the effects of aging on the body.
So, if you’re middle-aged and inactive, now is the time for some action. Researchers say that all Americans will be overweight by 2048. Do you want to be just another statistic? No, you don’t. Now is the time to shed your procrastination and get into some heavy-duty cardio training. Good luck.
